The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) yesterday said it would hold its first council meeting of the month after Prof. Colvin Guneratne assumed duties as its Chairman on Monday (02).
SLMC Registrar, Dr Terrance de Silva said that although Prof. Guneratne had been appointed last month he had assumed duties on Monday (02).
Responding to questions  regarding Wednesdayâs incident where medical students affiliated to the Medical Students Action Committee (MTAC) protested outside the SLMC and jeered Prof. Guneratne when he entered and left the SLMC premises, Dr De Silva said he could not comment on the issue as the Council had not yet met to discuss it.
When The Island attempted to contact Prof. Guneratne in this regard we were informed that he could not give a comment as he was having discussions at te time.
