Parents of both camps jointly call for a solution, meet prelates SAITM issue

KANDY: A group, representing the parents of the State Medical Faculty student and the SAITM students, called on the Mahanayake Theras of Asgiriya, Malwatta and Ramagnna Nikayas. They said they had jointly urged the government to evolve an immediate solution to the SAITM issue.

The group presented a memorandum with the signatures of the President of State Medical Faculty, parents association, Dr. Nimal Karunasiri and President of SAITM parents forum Gemunu Wijeratne to the Mahanayaka Theras of Asgiriya, Malawatte, Ramangna Nikayas and the Chief Incumbent of Getambe Rajopawanaramaya on Thursday (05) yesterday.

Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Mahanayake Thera of Asgiriya chapter after having listened to the parents said a statement containing the views of the four Mahanayake Theras would be issued on the SAITM issue.

Most Venerable Gnanaratana Maha Nayaka Thera received a copy of the joint statement by the two parents’ organisations of the state medical faculties and the SAITM.

Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri Mananayaka Thera of Ramagna Nikaya told the group of parents that the issue regarding the SAITM required early solution.

Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte also received a copy of the memorandum, addressed to President Maithripala Sirisena, calling for an early solution to the SAITM issue.

Chief Incumbent of Getambe Rajopawanaramaya and members of the Executive Committee Ramagnna Maha Nikaya Venerable Keppetiyagoda Siriwimala Nayaka Thera told the group of parents that the yahapalana government had been elected to office by the people hoping that it would evolve solutions to their problems, but it had failed to live up to people’s expectations.
