Iraj’s ‘Danuna’ Draws Flak
The music video shows an older man played by actor Wilson Karu falling in love with a young girl played by Piumi Hansamali after his wife passes away.
In the music video, the family of the older man express outrage at their father deciding to marry a young girl.
The video shows some sensual scenes between the man and girl as well as incidents seemingly related to a real life story. The video has recorded over 1.8 million hits on YouTube but has also been the subject of an attack on social media.
The concern is that the video looks at the personal life of Victor Ratnayake. The artiste had recently married a young girl and the story went viral on social media.
The marriage between Victor Ratnayake and his young wife was not welcome by his family but Ratnayake defended his new found love.
Iraj’s new video seemed to give a different interpretation of Ratnayake’s personal life and it was not well received by senior local artistes or his family.
Ratnayake’s son Jayantha Ratnayake told that the music video has been given publicity by ‘foolish’ electronic media and print media.
He said he has no intention of making a comment on the video as he feels Iraj Weeraratne is not an artiste.
Meanwhile actress and model Piumi Hansamali, who appears in the video as the young girl, said that the video is being unfairly attacked.
She told The Sunday Leader the music video and the song is a nice love story and she saw nothing wrong in appearing on it.
Piumi Hansamali also said that she has immense respect for Victor Ratnayake and even listens to his music.
“This music video is not an attempt to sling mud at anyone,” she asserted. The actress also notes that she does not appear nude on the video and so there is nothing to be ashamed of since she feels she has done no wrong.
Iraj has in recent times released music videos which have mostly drawn controversy and at the same time resulted in bringing his videos several hits.
The music producer has however been accused of making videos with content termed as ‘sexual’ and not suitable for local television.
