Cabinet gives approval for Hambantota LPG filling plant construction contract

The Government this week decided to award the contract to construct the gas filling factory of Litro Gas Lanka Company Hambantota to Dockyard General Engineering Services.

The decision was made on the recommendation of both the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee and Technical Evaluation Committee following the company’s successful bid for the job quoting a sum of Rs. 647,250,555.86.

Once completed, the filling plant facility at the LPG Tank Farm Complex in Hambantota will enable Litro Gas Management to utilise the tank farm complex cost effectively, Public Enterprise Development Minister Kabir Hashim told Cabinet. LITRO will utilise the facility to service consumers in the Hambantota, Ampara, Monaragala, Batticaloa, Badulla, Matara and Ratnapura districts, he said.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Co-Spokesperson Rajitha Senaratne yesterday defended the Government’s decision to increase an LPG domestic gas cylinder by Rs. 110, claiming that the consumer was still reaping the benefit of over Rs. 400 compared to the price before the current Government took over power.

“We have reduced the price after taking over. The price was a lot higher and the consumers are still reaping the benefits of the price reduction that happened in 2015,” he said.
