President Maithripala Sirisena who left for New York to attend the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations is due to reach New York this morning.
President Sirisena will today attend a conference on political affairs with other heads of state.
The conference will evaluate decisions reached by the states especially decisions reached at the 71st UN General Assembly.
The 72nd General Assembly will kick start tomorrow while President Sirisena is due to address the gathering as well.
The President is in New York along with a 17 member delegation.
This is the third time that President Maithripala Sirisena will be addressing the UN General Assembly.
The General Debate will open with a focus on the theme âFocusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planetâ.
The General Assembly will be held at the UN Headquarters in New York from the 17th to the 23rd of September.
The PMD noted the President is due to cover the areas of reconciliation, the nationâs political unity, peace and the program to eradicate poverty in his speech.
