CEB trade union strike enters day six
Trade union action launched by a group of employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board enters its sixth day today.
A special discussion between the CEB trade union members and Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations WDJ Seneviratne will take place at 2:30 this afternoon at the Labour Ministry.
When inquired by NewsRadio the Convenor of the Trade Union Collective Ranjan Jayalal said the discussion with Minister Seneviratne follows unsuccessful talks with Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy yesterday decided to grant officers of the Ceylon Electricity Board paid leave for two days they engaged in trade union action.
Subject Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya requested all officers of the CEB to report to work, following which efforts will be taken to provide solutions to the concerns they raised.
The Collective is demanding solutions to issues sounding the Employees Provident Fund including salary anomalies.
The Ministry has also recalled retired CEB officers as a result of the strike launched by employees of the CEB.
The leave of all employees attached to the CEB was also cancelled till the 20th of September except in case of emergencies.
