SLC to earn 3 Billion from ‘Nidahas Trophy’ 11 Billion comes from ICC

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to earn Rs 3 Billion (15 million USD) from hosting the ‘Nidahas Trophy ‘ Tri Nation Tournament next year revealed President of the SLC Thilanga Sumathipala yesterday.

The said tournament which will mark Sri Lanka’s 70 years of independence was launched in the middle of the second Test against Bangladesh earlier this year at the P. Sara Oval.

The tournament which involves Bangladesh and India is to be a T20 tournament consisting of six T20 matches to be played between 15th to 30th March next year.

Meanwhile he further said that SLC will get an income of 11 billion (70 million USD) rupees from ICC in the coming eight years ensuring financial stability at SLC in the upcoming years.

SLC also earned a large sum of funds for hosting the Indian tour of Sri Lanka where Sumathipala claimed that they turned SLC into a profit making venture after going through losses in the last few years. Nevertheless Present SLC itself sought a bank overdraft of Rs 250 million earlier this year prior to the Indian series.

He made these remarks at the start of the workshop organized by the Sports Ministry to revamp SL cricket which was held at the Water’s Edge yesterday.
