SriLankan will not be sold – Lakshman Yapa
State Minister for State Enterprise Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena refuted allegations that the Government is planning to sell SriLankan Airlines.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with a group of SLA executive officers on Tuesday (12), Abeywardena said that the Government only aims to reduce colossal losses of the airline.
That is why they decided to restructure the airline, he added and pointed out that there is a huge difference between selling and restructuring.
“Some of the workers at SriLankan fear that they would lose their jobs due to these rumours. But I should say that no one needs to be scared. We only want to make the airline an efficient institution at the management levels,” the State Minister noted.
Furthermore, the SriLankan Airlines is a national icon, Abeywardena said and added the Government will never intend to sell something like that.
