excess in income by 2020 – Ranil

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that through the consistent efforts of the government, the nation will enjoy a surplus in income by the year 2020.

Speaking to the public at a function held to provide compensation to flood affected residents in Galle, the Premier stated that he is confident that the economic vision of the government will vehemently benefit the future of Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister stated that the Government deficit between income and expenditure in 2014 was 1.5% of the GDP. He however stated that through the concerted efforts of the government it was reduced to 0.2% by 2016.

In his remarks the Prime Minister also stated that during 2005-2014 the debt of Sri Lanka increased by 233% causing a severe regression to the planned progress of the island nation. He however stated that through the intelligent and bold policy decisions made by the President and the Unity government, Sri Lanka has been able to increase income and gear itself for a prosperous future.
