Googleâs newest Android has officially been named Oreo, adding new features that would allow users to multitask on their home screen, as well as a system supported by stronger security protections.oreo
Sameer Samat, VP of product management, Android and Google Play, described the operating system as âsmarter, faster and more powerful than everâ in an announcement published on Monday.
âIt comes with new features like picture-in-picture and Autofill to help you navigate tasks seamlessly. Plus, itâs got stronger security protections and speed improvements that keep you safe and moving at lightspeed,â Samat wrote on a blog post.
The picture-in-picture feature allows user to see two apps on the phone screen, making it is easier to multitask.
Another additional feature is the notification dots, which pop up on the home screen and letâs you see updates from your apps for easy access to take action. Google has also redesigned its emoji and added 60 new ones.
Battery power is another element taken into consideration for the system update, as Android Oreo has been designed to help minimize unintentional overuse of battery from apps in the background.
Google has made the system available through Android Open Source Project (AOSP) since Monday, while Googleâs own Pixel and Nexus 5X/6P builds have entered carrier testing.
By the end of this year, hardware makers such as Samsung, LG, HTC, Nokia Phones and others are scheduled to launch or upgrade devices to Android 8.0 Oreo.
