The convener of the Voice-against Corruption Movement Wasantha Samarasinghe stated earlier today (16), that the pressing need of the people right now is not to apprehend past corrupt parties, but to provide justice to the parties committing fraud at present.
Wasantha Samarasinghe expressed these sentiments at the first media briefing of the âhoru rakina horuâ public council organized by the Voice-against Corruption Movement.
He further stated that the general public voted for the new government in 2015 to bring guilty parties to justice. He stated that the government safeguarding certain wrong-doers is a blatant disregard for the voice of the public.
It was also stated that for the first time in history, a motion of no-confidence was brought against a senior Minister of the government by members of the government themselves. He also stated that many UNP parliamentarians are attempting to hide allegations made against them by accusing the Attorney Generalâs Department.
Wasantha Samarasinghe also stated that the continued allegations of the UNP have become a hindrance to the AGâs department to carry out their inquiry to the bond scam.
The convener also stated that all the guilty parties under the protection of the President and Prime Minister must be weeded out before allegations are made against former political personalities.
