A group of unidentified armed-men who arrived in two vans have opened fire at a vehicle belonging to the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Kurana, Negombo.
A shootout between the suspects and STF personnel had ensued.
Four suspects from the gang have been arrested while two of them are said to be injured.
They were admitted to the Seeduwa Hospital and later transferred to Ragama Hospital. One of then is reportedly in critical condition.
Police said that none of the STF personnel in the jeep were injured in the shooting.
The two vans used by the suspects have been taken into custody while two T-56 assault rifles and a revolver were found inside them.
