Railway Engine Drivers have decided to temporarily call off their strike action scheduled for tonight following a discussion with the Deputy Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe.
The Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union (LEOU) were preparing to launch a strike from midnight today (01) based on several demands.
They include the suspending of enrolling driving assistants and solutions to the braking issues frequently experienced on Chinese train compartments.
The union also says that the deputy minister has agreed to cancel the examination for selecting railway assistant drivers.
