The Ministry of Health has announced that the Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital of Malabe will be providing treatment free-of-charge to patients, effective today (01).
Dr. Ajith Mendis has been elected to serve as the Chairman of the new hospital management board, whilst Rear Admiral Dr. N. E. W. Jayasekara has been appointed to the post of Director.
The hospital is scheduled to issue medication free-of-charge to patients from today (01) onwards. The Health Ministry stated that the Medical Supplies Division had distributed the necessary drugs and medication to the Hospital in the afternoon yesterday (31).
Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne also assured that the existing problems pertaining to human resources would be solved as soon as possible.
The hospital is due to be formally converted to the Colombo-East Teaching Hospital in future, Ministry sources added.
