UPFA Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa alleges that the UNP-led government which swindled over 13 billion rupees through the Treasury bond scams is now trying to find a scapegoat by highlighting the purchase by former Finance Minister of a 160-million-rupee penthouse.
Addressing a ceremony to recruit new organisers and cadres for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) yesterday at the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Auditorium, the MP said that the government was mistaken if it thought that the people would be ignorant enough to forget the treasury bond scams. âThe government ripped off more than 13 billion rupees through the treasury bond rackets.
MP Rajapaksa said the time had come for people to consider changing the present regime which had caused immense suffering to people and losses to the country. âThe government came to power promising one million jobs for the youth. That promise has turned out to be another lie. The President of the country is from Rajarata, which used to produce rice for the entire country. Today, rice has to be imported. This situation has arisen as the government has curtailed subsidies given to the farming community.
The event, organised by Kelaniya MP Prasanna Ranaweera, was also addressed by MPs Gamini Lokuge, Indika Anuruddha, Prasanna Ranatunga and Western Provincial Council Member Kokila Harshani Gunawardena.
