Foreign Exchange Bill passed in Parliament

The Foreign Exchange Bill was passed in Parliament with amendments, a short while ago.

Ada Derana reporter said that 96 members voted in favour of the bill while 18 voted against it.

President Maithripala Sirisena was also present in parliament during debate and vote on the Foreign Exchange draft bill.

In May, the Supreme Court had determined that the Foreign Exchange Bill is in accordance with the constitution of Sri Lanka.

This was following a petition filed by several individuals including MP Bandula Gunawardena challenging the constitutionality of the bill, which was presented the House on April 7, 2017.
