A French National arriving from Dubai, was intercepted by customs officials at the Katunayake Airport (BIA), for attempting to import Rs. 11.5 million without declaring the goods at customs.
Officials also discovered one blue sapphire, three yellow sapphires, 61 foreign cigarettes and nine bottles of foreign liquor valued at Rs. 200,000.
Further investigations on the interception are being carried out by customs officials.
Meanwhile, customs officials at the United Parcels Services intercepted a parcel that had arrived via air mail, carrying US $12,500 (Rs. 2 million).
The parcel which had arrived via airmail from the United States was addressed to an individual residing in Colombo 12.
