The government that existed from 2005 to 2015 can be identified as the golden age for artists in Sri Lanka and an age when they received the support of the government, says former President Mahinda Rjapaksa.
Speaking during an event of the âFree Art Guildâ held last night in Panadura, he said that his government was able to provide artists with every possible relief and concessions, which he claimed the incumbent government is attempting to curtail.
Rajapaksa said that not only artists, but even the relief accorded to religious places of worship is now being slashed.
He charged that the governmentâs shortsighted policies have led to the countryâs economic downfall.
The former President claimed that it is not known what happened to the money the country had on January 08, 2015.
He said that the government is also attempting to pin the blame regarding the economyâs present situation on the Rajapaksa regime.
Rajapaksa said that the finger is being pointed at nonexistent wrongdoings of the previous government in order to hide the current governmentâs wrongdoings. âHe who cannot dance claims the floor is uneven.â
