Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the Government has no authority to control Buddhist temples or intervene in their functioning.
The Prime Minister stated this upon attending a discussion with the monks of the Young Bhikku Union at Temple Trees today (12).
PM Wickremesinghe proceeded to state that the media were attempting to create non-existent problems, and also requested politicians to not play politics with religion.
Wickremesinghe added that false, baseless facts were being spread about Buddhism targeting the upcoming Local Government polls.
Meanwhile, he also stated that the proposed constitution was in the process of being created, and assured that the priority accorded to Buddhism would not be taken away by the new constitution.
