Former Sri Lankan captain rewrites record books.

Sanga slams twin hundreds at Lord’s.

Not content with scoring one century at Lord’s in a match where his portrait was unveiled in the Pavilion,Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara added another for Surrey against county champions Middlesex on Sunday.

The veteran left-hander’s 114 had been the cornerstone of the visitors’ first-innings 313.

Sangakkara topped that on Sunday ( 21st May) with an unbeaten 116 in a total of 191 for four that saw Surrey erase their London rivals’ lead on the third day of this First Division County Championship clash.Surrey ended the third day 96 runs in front after Middlesex made 411 built on Dawid Malan’s 115 and 112 from captain James Franklin, the former New Zealand all-rounder.

It was the 31st instance a batsman had scored twin hundreds at the Home of Cricket in First Class cricket. Only on five instances since 1990 batsmen had achieved the rare feat.

The former Sri Lanka skipper has been in prolific form for Surrey this season having accumulated 913 runs in 12 innings. This is his fifth hundred for Surrey in the season and he average a stunning 91.3.

Sanga will turn 40 in October and has said that this will be his last season playing County Cricket.

Sangakkara retired from international cricket in 2015 as Sri Lanka’s highest run getter in Test and ODI cricket. His career average of 57 in Tests and 42 in ODIs are the highest by a Sri Lankan.

No other Sri Lankan has averaged over 50 in Tests
