Tharanga disappointed in lack of batting effort
Opener Upul Tharanga has expressed his disappointment with the Sri Lankan batting effort during the the first match of the three-match Twenty20 International series in Cuttack yesterday.
It was a case of yet another day, yet another defeat for Sri Lanka as they were annihilated by India.
Like it’s been the pattern in recent times, once again, it was Sri Lanka’s batting that let them down massively.
Tharanga was critical of his side’s batting efforts.
Tharanga said after the game “The main thing is that we are disappointed with the batting.
In the bowling as well, I think we started really well, we did well in the middle period, in the death overs we gave too many boundary balls and then the momentum shifted to their side.”
Tharanga also admitted more than the defeat, the lack of fight and the fact that the team couldn’t bat out their quota of 20 overs would be more concerning to the team management.
He said “Yes, it’s definitely concerning. When we came here from Sri Lanka, the main thing was to compete. Very disappointed with the way we batted, at least we should bat the 20 overs, losing is okay but we have to at least come close to the target.”
Both teams now travel to Indore for the second T20I that is slated to be played on Friday (22)
