Rohingya refugees’ issue Two monks summoned by CCD

Two Buddhist monks were issued notice to appear before the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), in order to give a statement regarding their protest against the Rohingya refugees.

Police noted that Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratane and Ven. Arambepola Rathanasara Theras have been summoned to give a statement to the CCD today.

Meanwhile, four suspects, including the female, arrested for threatening Rohingya refugees in Mount Lavinia, were remanded till 9 October by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate yesterday.

Police Media Unit confirmed that the all six suspects involved in the 26 September incident, where a large group of protestars attempted to storm the temporary detention centre sheltering Rohingya refugees in Mount Lavinia, have now been arrested and remanded. Those remanded include Liyanage Abeyratne Suresh Priyasad alias Dan Priyasad who organized the protest last month.

Dan Priyasad has been initially arrested previously as well for the spread of hate speech.

Four suspects were arrested last Saturday (30) while the remaining two were arrested earlier last week.

The arrests were made following investigations into the threats made by certain radical groups against the Myanmar Rohingya refugees, who were residing in Mount Lavinia. Reports confirm that the four arrested suspects are residents of Meethotamulla, Ganemulla, Enderamulla and Nawala.
