LNP – President assures release of political prisoners, northern lands captured by security forces
Steps will be taken to return the northern and eastern people’s lands taken over by the security forces for various security reasons while steps will also be taken to release political prisoners, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.
Speaking at an election rally in Vavuniya, he said political prisoners will be released on the advice of the Attorney General.
He said people in the north and east must vote for the National People’s Power (NPP) as the NPP is the only party which cab create national harmony with the support of the Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher people, adding that voting for a party which commands the support of the people in the north, south and east will resolve half of the national problem.
He said some political parties that are contesting under other parties claim that they will join the NPP government after the victory and added that it is too late for them now.
“Now, they do not claim that they will support the former President or the Opposition Leader just as at the Presidential election. They claim that they will support the NPP after the victory. We must tell them, it is too late now. They have missed the bus,” he said.
