General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff of India, is set to visit Sri Lanka on January 7, as announced by the Indian Defence Ministry. His visit will last for two days, during which he will meet with high-ranking military and civil leaders. This includes discussions with the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Deputy Minister of Defence, and the Defence Secretary. They will talk about various topics that are important to both countries, such as training cooperation, capacity building, and regional security. Additionally, General Dwivedi is scheduled to speak to officers at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and engage with officers and trainees at the Army War College in Buttala. This shows India's strong focus on defence education and professional exchanges with Sri Lanka. He will also pay respects at the IPKF War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers. The Indian Defence Ministry highlighted that the Army Chief's trip to Sri Lanka reinforces India's dedication to enhancing defence cooperation, building mutual trust, and improving interoperability with friendly nations in the Indian Ocean Region.
