It is reported that all five children s homes in Galle are full of abandoned and abused children who need special attention and care. At a District children s safe keeping committee headed by Galle Additional Secretary Ms. Malanie Lokupothagama it was disclosed that most of these homes have more children than they could cope up.
It was stated that all 17 children s homes in Galle District were crowded ant it had caused a lot of issues.
It had been reported that a considerable number of abuse in children's homes throughout the country are being reported regularly and considering this alarming situation, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) had planned to actively intervene in the supervision of all Children's homes.
However, like in many government affairs nothing has been done and children who need support have been abandoned in children s homes that are overcrowded and without any facilities.
The overcrowding of children s homes is an indication of eh breaking down of the society point out a sociologist.
